How Steve Sarkisian developed one of the best Texas draft classes in school history

Individual success follows team accomplishments

That’s the message that Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian delivered to his team as the Longhorns effectively ended Nick Saban’s dynasty with the Alabama Crimson Tide with an early-season upset in Tuscaloosa and pulled out three single-possession victories on the way to the program’s first Big 12 title since 2009 and first-ever appearance in the College Football Playoffs.

And while the postseason recognition for players mattered, like defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat winning the Outland Trophy as the nation’s top interior lineman, those awards and honors mean nothing compared to the 2024 NFL Draft, a triumphant three days for Sarkisian and his former players that saw all 11 players invited to the NFL Draft Combine come off the board in the first six rounds, setting a number of program records as one of the most successful draft classes in school history.
